Best Things To Do in Perth, ON

A charming destination that turns a simple day trip into something special. From cozy cafés to local shops, historic sites, and a mini food tour that might just be one of my best yet, here’s how to spend a perfect day in Perth.

If you’ve ever wandered through Perth, you already know—this town is straight out of a storybook. Charming heritage buildings, tree-lined streets, and a slower pace that makes you want to savor every moment.

Some places just have that feeling—the kind that makes you want to linger a little longer, take the scenic route, and soak it all in. Perth is one of those towns. During our staycation at Closs Crossing, we decided to explore this charming town on our own.

I’ve always believed the best way to experience a place is through its food, and without even meaning to, this afternoon turned into a full-on mini food tour. It was a slow, easy-paced adventure through charming streets, local flavors, and cozy corners where time feels like it moves just a little slower.

Wandering through downtown Perth, you can’t help but be drawn into its little shops, cafés, and restaurants, each holding its own charm. Perth Chocolate Works was one of those places I couldn’t just pass by. Walking in, the rich smell of chocolate hit instantly—and of course we had to buy a box of chocolates. We created our own box (because when in Perth, right?) and let myself savor every bite.

Next up? What has become my favourite shop in town is The Perth Cheese Shop. I am a huge fan of charcuterie, and no one can say no to cheese. This shop is where you step inside and immediately start imagining your dream cheese board (and essentially want to buy the entire store). Locally made, specialty imports, endless pairing options—I could have spent way too much time here (and a lot of money). We picked out a handful of cheeses to bring back to our Airbnb, to create a board and cozy up with the fireplace and a glass of wine.

Before visiting Perth, I had a Google list of all the places we needed to go, and the Perth Pie Shop has incredible reviews (and for so many good reasons!). This little shop is a haven for pastry lovers, serving flakey, buttery pies stuffed with everything from classic apple to savory favourites like steak and ale. Whether grabbing one to go or settling in with a warm slice and a cup of coffee, you must try these pies!

Step back in time at the Perth Museum when you need a break from food. Housed in the historic and elegant 1840s Matheson House, this museum is filled with local history, showcasing artifacts, period rooms, and fascinating stories from Perth’s past. The displays completely blew me away, and I was amazed at how well everything had been restored with care. It’s a must-visit for history buffs—or anyone who enjoys wandering through heritage buildings. The museum is open from 10 am to 5 pm, Wednesday to Sunday, and admission is by donation.

LIDA is a hidden gem in town if you’re in the mood for shopping. This thoughtfully curated boutique focuses on minimalist, sustainable fashion and timeless pieces that feel as good as they look. LIDA is a small, family-owned clothing and lifestyle boutique offering a curated modern selection of new and pre-loved shoes, clothing, and accessories. Even if you’re browsing, the store has a modern, airy, and effortlessly cool vibe.

For more shopping, Flint & Honey is another must-visit. This charming lifestyle boutique carries a mix of trendy and cozy finds, from Canadian-made clothing to home goods and self-care essentials. Whether you’re hunting for a unique gift or treating yourself, it’s easy to lose track of time here.

The Rocky River Café was the perfect place to land for happy hour. With a cozy seat by the window, a glass of something crisp, and that slow, easy kind of energy that makes you want to stay a while, the Rocky River Cafe has a great selection of drinks, tasty small bites, and a laid-back atmosphere.

By the time dinner rolled around, I was already full in the best way—but there’s always room for pizza. Riverwood Pizza Company does it right. Wood-fired, crispy in all the best ways, and topped with fresh, simple ingredients that don’t need much else. The kind of meal that reminds you why good pizza is an experience. Plus the atmosphere is so cozy and cute!

I’ve read that no trip to Perth is complete without a visit to Perth Brewery, and although beer is not my first choice of drink, it’s always so fun to get a flight when visiting breweries. Let me tell you - The O’Canada Maple Ale is smooth, just a touch sweet—subtle but undeniably Canadian. Grab a flight, settle in for a taste test, or take a pack to go for later!

Spending a day in Perth was like hitting the pause button—delicious food, leisurely moments, and that irresistible small-town charm that feels so authentic. Definitely adding it to the list of places worth coming back to.

These stops add even more layers to an already perfect day in Perth—a town that’s equal parts historic charm and modern vibrance. With a little bit of everything—food, culture, shopping, and small-town warmth—it’s the kind of place you visit once and immediately start planning your next trip back.
